Sandoval Marriage Ruled Valid

It is a day to celebrate in our community, we have 64 couples who have valid marriages in New Mexico!

In a divorce proceeding in Santa Fe, Judge Sarah Singleton ruled that one of the Sandoval 64 marriages was valid and that a divorce proceeding was appropriate for Angela Maria Carrejo and Karla Janelle Haught.  Haught, an attorney representing herself, was arguing that the marriage from Feb. 24, 2004 was void from the start because then-Sandoval County Clerk Victoria Dunlap lacked the authority to issue licenses to same-sex couples.

Gay Horror Story from Sonoma County Just North of San Francisco Bay - Updated 4/24/10

Here is the story in a local Sonoma county newspaper, the Press Democrat.  It seems there was some alligations of domestic violence, and this needs to be a concern of people.  But would a married couple, involved in domestic abuse, be denied the right to see each other?  Would their homes be closed and possessions sold off without consulting both?

What is even more amazing to me, is that this happened 2 years ago, why wasn't information about this known before National Center for Lesbian Rights put it on their web site?  Why didn't the substantial Sonoma LGBTIQ community know about this until now?  How many others have had similar situations that we are not hearing about?

Uniting American Families Act - Giving Foreign-born Partners Equality

Posted in

The Uniting American Families Act (UAFA -H.R. 1024/S. 424) was introduced
as a Valentine’s Day gift this year to same-sex, bi-national couples by Rep. Jerrold Nadler
and Sen. Patrick Leahy.

As you may be aware, the U.S. government discriminates against gay and lesbian bi-national couples
by not allowing us to sponsor our foreign-born life partners or spouses for immigration.
Because of this, we face the terrible choice of separating from the person we love
or leaving our country. As Americans, we should not have to choose between
