What is going on with the Clubs/Bars?

Historically the GLBT community has been closely linked to night clubs or bars as a social element of the community.  Whether bad or good, times have changed...right now, it appears Albuquerque and many other cities are experiencing similar environments where the "gay" clubs are disappearing.  Is this related to being accepted into "mixed" or "straight" clubs with less problems (certainly not completely accepting, of course)?   Are people tired of clubs (even though most are non-smoking)?  Are people "hooking up" online and no longer need clubs?   Is it the drunk driving laws that have become the focus of politicians and puritans?   Is it the economy?   Well, I think it is all of these and think we will not recover from this in Albuquerque, relating to the social outlet, for many years, if ever.  We are now meeting online and in small special interest groups.   Is this what we want?   Why does everyone come out for Gay Pride?   Now we meet in our online worlds in the convenience, sterility and anonymity.  Well I hope you are ready for the furture if this is what it is.  Tell us what you think? I suggest people get behind in real support of the gay churches, organizations and night clubs in support of the many things that group us together as a people, or the movement will be lost and you will have succeeded in being normal and part of the whole. -CrazeMary
