First there was the new type of Gay Pride event in Albuquerque in 2008, where you lived where the party was without the stress, risks and dangers of drinking and driving, and celebrated with your friends for Gay Pride Weekend and played in the water on a hot June day.
"Tribal Pride" was an event that rivaled the big cities in entertainers, DJs, dance, fire spinners, tribal drummers, lighting and a huge sound system. Many felt this type of event could not happen in Albuquerque but it did. Yes, a few glitches, because of the learning process, but never the less, an event people still reflect on. There were those days when lines stretched around the Pulse Nightclub, that everyone looks back on with awe, but at 2am everyone had to be kicked out on the streets because of the New Mexico laws. That was then and we now have to adapt to a time of internet hook ups, DWI crackdowns and a much smaller selection of night clubs and big venues.
Are you ready...for two years, the planners of Tribal Pride have been planning the next new event...TRIBAL SPLASH! With the same purpose, but now one huge day of exclusive occupation of the Radisson Water Park and Hotel. This will be different in that the facilities are fully enclosed and the hotel actually wanted to host the event because of the past success with Tribal Pride. In order to come to the party you must be a guest of the hotel (up to five per room) and you have to buy the room (or comment who you are staying with) along with the drink bands (where do you store money when you are dancing in your swim suit?).
Will this trend continue? Well it depends if Albuquerque continues to have fun and embrace it. The concept of "live in the party" is simply a way to take the current conditions in Albuquerque, New Mexico and make it a positive for Our Family, Our Rhythm, Our Tribe, within Our Space.
The event will start off with a welcome Pool Party at 4pm after the Pride Parade and Festival, and then Main Waterpark Event with dancing, music, a spectacular light show and your favorite cocktails. There will be go-go boys from around the country. After all that, then there will be an after-hours party. Check out the website at www.liveintheparty.com for tickets and hotel information.
As for me, I will not be rollerblading as in the past ten years (hoped you liked the dairy queen ice cream outfit last year). I will be in the biggest and loudest float ever in Gay Pride, so catch those beads when the behemoth float goes by you (you will not miss it, I promise), then I will see you at the Pride Festival and then at Tribal Splash at the Radisson.
Equal rights, peace and love for all. Go Pride!!! Go Gays!!!!
