Gender Transgression & Identity

10/01/2010 10:00 am
10/28/2010 5:00 pm

Harwood Art Center's first annual LGBTQ show examines gender: identity, construction, deconstruction and transgression, and society's reaction to pushing American gender boundaries.

This year's show is a juried exhibition based on an open call.  In a wide range of media, including pen & ink, oils, photography and sculpture, artists examine what gender means to them, how it has affected their lives and the lives of others, and other people's responses to their apperance.

Artists include: Monika ten Bruggencate, Beth Christense, Helen Cozza, Dick & Wayne, Sofia Eleftheriou, Peter Grahame, Branden Koch, and Jax Manhoff.

In conjunction with the exhibit & the Southwest Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, there will be a screening of the film "Assume Nothing" on September 30th at 7pm at the Harwood Art Center.

Albuquerque Legislative Post-Session ~ Vent Event II

02/21/2010 2:00 pm

As the legislative session comes to an end, we are deeply disappointed that SB183, Domestic Partnerships sponsored by Senator Wirth and Representative Stewart, was tabled in the Senate Finance Committee this year.

However, we are pleased to have Senator McSorley introduce SB146, a bill to change marriage license forms to applicant 1 and applicant 2. We also defeated any legislation that would define marriage.

In order to give you all an opportunity to hear a debrief of this legislative session, please see below for the upcoming gatherings.

Albuquerque Post-Session ~ Vent Event II
This Sunday ~ February 21 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
1800 4th Street, Albuquerque at Hank's House of Cabinetry

We will be joined by the Gay Men's Chorus as well as Flynnt and members of the Dolls.

*When our days become dreary with low-hovering clouds of despair, and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, let us remember that there is a creative force in this universe, working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil, a power that is able to make a way out of no way and transform dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows. Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice... 1967 Address to the SCLC, Dr. Martin Luther King
