New Mexico’s largest “Day of the Dead” Art event is back and will take place April 17 & 18, 2010 at the Albuquerque Garden Center. “Arte de Muertos” Expo features exceptional “Dia de los Muertos” mixed-media art from Texas, Colorado, Arizona and especially New Mexico. “Arte de Muertos” Expo offers “Day of the Dead” observers and collectors the opportunity to enjoy exquisite artist creations outside the traditional, once a year Fall observance. “Arte de Muertos” Expo is produced by ADM Productions, a special event planning business formed exclusively to produce “Arte de Muertos” Expo’s here in the Albuquerque. “Dia de los Muertos” (Day of the Dead) celebrates the lives of loved ones who have died by constructing colorful home altars of remembrance with the loved ones favorite food, drink, keepsakes, etc.

Common Bond NM Emergency Project

The Emergency Project, founded by Liz Canfield and a group of friends in 1988, steps in to help individuals living with HIV/AIDS when no other assistance program can respond. Many government-funded agencies are slow to make decisions -- or there are seasonable caps on funds that are available. Sometimes recipients live in rural communities where services are unavailable and confidentiality is difficult to maintain. On a last-resort basis the Emergency Project provides modest amounts for rent, utilities or other necessities of life until traditional, long-term help can take over.

During 2009, the Emergency Project dispersed $16,712.70 to 84 individuals living with HIV/AIDS -- male, female and transgender who are Hispanic, Caucasian, Native American, African American, and Asian American. We do not question or discriminate based on sexual orientation.

NMO Day of the Dead Parade and Festivities

11/01/2009 5:00 pm

We'll be gathering at the Day of the Dead parade on November 1.   There's a short (30 min) parade.  People line the parade route in skeleton costumes and face paint.  It's got an authentic small-town feel to it,   and some very creative costumes.  Bring your camera.  The parade begins about 30 mins before sunset, and is followed by food and drumming in nearby Westside Park.   The center of the parade route is Isleta Blvd and Arenal Road SW.  We'll be standing on the SE corner of Isleta and Arenal.   Email Marshall at marshall.mourar@gmail.com  for more information.

NMO Ojito Wilderness Day Trip

10/17/2009 10:00 am

I am thinking of making another attempt at the Ojito wilderness hike, but I want to combine it with spirituality and journaling.  Personally, I feel that land is sacred, and I  propose a hike with a picnic stop at the abandoned shepherd's hut and I propose that participants bring a journal of some sort along with their lunch.  I'd encourage participants to write for about ten minutes what ever impressions they come up with. WE could share the written impressions.   It's sort of a hike combined with a mini-writers; group.  I'm not sure your regulars will go for it, but it's an opportunity to offer a "twist" on the traditional hike.

Since 1979 has served authentic Italian cuisine, including pasta, seafood, steak and chicken, made from family recipes in an upscale setting. Busy with a corporate/casual crowd at lunch, the evening is then filled with locals, savvy business travelers, and tourists that gather to this inviting neighborhood place... The anonymous exterior gives way to a warm, inviting, upscale interior of exposed brick with broken plaster walls filled with Trompeloeil Murals reminiscent of an Italian Piazza. The warm, aromatic, homemade Italian Bread is addictive…
