The New Mexico State Fair begins this Friday and for a fourth year the LGBT community is hosting a booth sharing our community with fair attendees.
This year several LGBT organizations have committed to host our booth for an entire day at the fair. Each day will be broken up into three (3) shifts with hopefully three (3) volunteers per shift. The three shifts are: 1. Morning (10am-1pm) 2. Afternoon, (1pm-5pm) 3. Evening (5pm-9pm)
The host organizations are attempting to staff the booth with members from their organizations. However, they need your help!! Specifically, volunteers are needed for: Sunday (9/13) One volunteer for each of the afternoon & evening shifts
It's time again for the GLBT community to go to the State Fair and show New Mexico.
"We Are a Rainbow of Colors”
Every year our GLBT community booth attracts more people and provides valuable information regarding our entire community to thousands. From September 11-27, 2009 we can do it again.
In prior years preparation, funding and staffing for our community booth has been done by only a few organizations. The goal this year is to have active participation from all members of the GLBT community. To accomplish this, no organization's information will be included in the booth unless someone from their organization takes an active role. Therefore, all organizations are requested to send a representative to our Kick Off (informational) meeting scheduled for August 12th at 6:00 PM at EQNM located at 1410 Coal Ave., SW in Albuquerque. (Donations and booth volunteer sign up can be made at the Kick off meeting.)

The New Mexico Senate Judiciary Committee vote on the domestic partnership rights and responsiblites act on Monday was a blow for all of us who believe in the values of fairness and inclusion. But it is not the last word. There are still 42 days left in the session, and the bill can still be heard and passed this year.
In other words, our fight for fairness is not over. We have been waiting a long time for basic rights, but we cannot wait any longer. Every day New Mexico familes are suffering with out basic legal protections.
As you know, even though the opposition packed the senate
gallery 3 hours before the session began
Wednesday, the Domestic Partners Rights & Responsibilities
Act (SB12) passed the Senate Public Affairs Committee by a vote
of 5-4!
The bill will now move to vote in the Judiciary
Committee. We need your help, now more than ever.
