Coming in 2021: Common Bond’s Higher Education Pursuit Fund
To further celebrate our 40th Anniversary, Common Bond is embarking on a new project to help younger members of our LGBTQ+ community embark on a journey to their dreams.
There are few mechanisms that can break cycles of marginalization as much as education can. Reasons abound for why people fall short of their educational pursuits. However, there is one common event that will stop them before they even have the chance to try – access. Issues surrounding access to education take many forms. One impediment that Common Bond can help alleviate is application and exam fees for those pursuing higher education.
The Higher Education Pursuit Fund will provide the financial means for LGBTQ+ people access to higher education. With the average student applying to 7-10 colleges, the average costs range between $475 - $600. Not everyone is seeking four-year degree/certifications. Therefore, this Fund will also support students who are entering trade/vocational schools.
