New Staff Members at SAGE
Services & Advocacy for LGBTQ+ Elders is America's oldest and largest non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender older adults, focusing on the issue of LGBTQ+ ageing. The Albuquerque chapter was established in 2012.
Maryanne Miceli-Mendoza has joined SAGE Albuquerque as its new Program Coordinator. Building on activities established by Havens Levitt, Maryanne vows to “make even bigger strides in our efforts to reach more members of the community and impact change in a way that brings a forward momentum that is unstoppable.” With degrees in both Business and Psychology, she is intent on building “a beautiful cooperative bridge between the ages of our community and creating an environment where everyone can learn, laugh, and share in the life and lessons of one another in a safe and constructive way. This can ultimately be the foundation for future generations to take the lead and continue the forward progress that has been and continues to be made.”

Amelia Lopez is also a new arrival at SAGE Albuquerque. Initially she will be pilot-testing a “Friendly Voice” program for folks who sign up to receive regular calls from a volunteer. Just recently retired from the State of New Mexico, her professional background includes working for the Albuquerque, Chicago and Los Angeles school districts. Amelia has worked in the non-profit world as well. In all of her positions, her focus has been working with families, students and the LGBTQ+ community.
Amelia comes with a wealth of experience in building the volunteer community for many non-profits in the Chicagoland area. Her last venture there was on the board for Gay Games Chicago, 2006. This board bid and won the proposal to bring the Gay Games to Chicago in 2006.
