The 19 Shows
Caught in the Act 1982
The first production was performed for an estimated audience (between two performances) of 170 at a short-lived disco club on Menaul NE. The performers and technical support people included Jack Denvir, Jim Lester, Mark Prouse, Glen Samson, Jim Lester, and J.D. Stribling. As reported in the July 1992 Common Bond Ink newsletter: The program began with a song composed by Jon Hull entitled “I’m gay! I’m proud! I’m alive!” performed by the Brash Ensemble. Darby Fegan demonstrated remarkable flexibility from his more familiar role of virtuoso pianist by doing his impression of Marlene Dietrich singing “Falling in Love Again” and “My Heart Belongs to Daddy” (in his baritone voice). “The Body Shop,” a skit by Jon Hull and directed by Bruce Karcher, amusingly illustrated that people ought to make the most of and be satisfied with their natural appearance. Galt Johnson, George Arellanes and Brian Lanter expressed the lustier side of gay life by singing Alan Stringer’s original composition, “Furtive Glances at the Gym.” Galt also performed his original compositions “Rainbow Man” and “I Need You Near Me.” The show closed with “Our Town,” a slide presentation of gay life in Albuquerque with photography by Glen Samson and electronic music by Scott Amspoker. |
